This Valentine’s Day, gift your valentine a ricey treat!

with No Comments

It’s that time of the year again; when the floodgates of love open in every heart. When the doors and windows of stores, shops, restaurants or anywhere else are taped with hearts of all shapes, sizes and colors. When red rose bouquets, arrow-yielding cupids and heart-shaped balloons have a special meaning to people.

With people turning more practical and rational with every passing day, the gifting options for your valentine has gotten harder than ever before. Last year, a man from Manila in Philippines gifted his girlfriend a sack of rice out of practical thoughtfulness. Shortly after he posted about it on Facebook, the post went viral and he amassed 62,000 shares and 65,000 reactions.

This year, if you are falling short of non-traditional and practical ways to delight your loved one, let me tell you about the most delicious way to do so – Rice Krispie Treat.

If you ask us, we are nuts for it. We just love a good rice krispie treat that is ooey, gooey and tastes delicious. Especially with lots of marshmallows. This recipe is fun, festive and easy to make that it takes your standard rice krispie recipe and turns it into a savoury delight.

Rice Krispies

If you’ve never prepared a rice krispie treat before, you needn’t worry at all. Read on and you’ll see how easy it really is. With just a few ingredients, you can get started.

All you need

  • 4 tablespoons of butter

  • 5 cups of mini marshmallows

  • 6 1/2 cups of crispy rice cereal (preferably Rice Krispies)

For Decorations

  • Sprinkles for decoration

  • Heart shaped cookie cutter

  • Cocoa melts and candy melts

The Easy Process

  1. Put wax paper on a shallow pan and set it aside.

  2. Put your marshmallows into a pot on the stove on a low heat. Add in your butter and gently stir until the butter melts.

  3. Mix in your rice krispies cereal and stir until it coats evenly.

  4. Once thoroughly mixed and evenly coated, pour the mixture into the prepared pan with wax paper. Using the spatula, spread out the mixture and cover the entire pan and flatten it about 1” thick.

  5. Now place the pan in your fridge for about an hour to cool and harden.

  6. Take out the pan from the fridge and remove the rice krispie treats (but leave the wax paper underneath). With your cookie cutter, cut out as many hearts as possible from the hardened rice cake.

  7. Melt the cocoa melts and candy melts as per the package instructions. With the help of a spoon decorate the hearts with the melted cocoa/candy, or you may choose to drizzle it for a fancier look.

  8. Immediately scatter the sprinkles onto the melted cocoa/candy while it’s soft and wet.

Voila! You just prepared a delicious delicacy for your loved one.

And of course, if you wish to take it a notch higher, just stick a paper straw into the base of the heart and it will turn into a beautiful Valentine’s Day rice krispie treat pops, for your special one.

They can sometimes turn out to be the best gift you can give.
